HDMI to YPbPr converter? S-Video to YPbPr connector?

Please forgive my ignorance, but maybe someone can help out.

I already own a nice digital camcorder (Cannon Vixia HFM31), and I’d like to hook it up to my Visual Cortex for additional fun. It outputs in various formats, including composite video and HDMI, but alas no YPbPr-- so all I can pull into the Visual Cortex is B/W.

Is this likely to work, so that I can have a color image to play with?

My other camera choice is an older videoconferencing camera that outputs my choice of S-video or composite. I came across this on eBay, is it likely to work?

This Mini-DIN 7-Pin to Component YPbPr adapter cable lets you connect between your display to your capable graphics card or other compliant video source.

The first scaler looks promising, you’d want to set the output to 480i.

The second (DIN-7 to YPbPr) will not work. That’s a breakout cable that would be compatible only with some older video cards.

Personally I’d skip the consumer grade stuff and go for a setup with Blackmagic or AJA converters.

I have this one, and it definitely works. Probably worth the extra $20 to be sure you don’t get a turkey. Apparently, there are some similar-looking things on Amazon which are terrible…
