Hi all

The BLUR module is ready!

dual

Description:

An analog Blur effect for video synthesis.

This module uses a lowpass filter to achieve blur / softening trail type effects.

It has a blur amount potmeter, a gain adjustment to match/unmatch the blurred image to the dry signal when using CV and a switch for 3 different blur range settings.

There is an input jack, output jack and video rate CV control over DRY / WET (no effect / effect)

You can use this effect on all kinds of video shapes or video input signals for interesting results.

With camera feedback you can create (voltage controlled) soft trailing wash-outs and fades.

The CV input can be adjusted between 0-1v or 0-5v for easy interfacing with other eurorack modules.

Note on parts:

This module has a few expensive parts, such as 1x LT1251 & 2x LM6172 and trimpots.

Not sure if this is the right thread (or forum?) for support questions, but I’m working on gathering components for this, and I found a discrepancy between the build guide and the BOM/schematic so now I’m a little confused and want to make sure I’ll put the right components.

The BOM (v3f-2) lists the following 3 filter value capacitors:

c8 = 10nF

c9 = 1nF

c10 = 470pF

(which fits in the ranges specified in the BOM)

But the build guide (v1-1) mentions the following about these capacitors:

C8: 470pF, C9: 1nF and C10: 10nF

(which has C8 and C10 switched when comparing to the BOM/schematic)

I’m not sure if the order matters for the switch circuity (I should be able to reason it out, but it was a draining day at work so my brain isn’t the freshest right now), so I wanted to check to see which is preferred or correct, if the order matters.

Hey Joem, I looked at the schematic and C10 is connected to the common pin of the switch so I believe that one should be the smallest value (470pF).

It definitely wouldn’t hurt to @ @reverselandfill just to be 100%.

Note: On the panel, the jack holes and the potmeter holes are not in the same horizontal position.

This is to correct the height difference of the jacks comparated to the potmeters

(about 1 / 1.5 mm)

Standalone BLUR test:

The BLUR module can be used as standalone video effect

some remarks:

At extreme blur settings you lose sync (this can be adjusted with a smaller capacitor value at c8)
The gain setting is too high, this should be adjusted with other resistor values at r18 & r28
The CV input will also be unsynced, so it will scroll.

If you use the same source and add some variations to it, you can get nice results.

image changing effects such as keying & highpass filters / edge enhancers work really good:

the results are partially blurred effects and shifted patterns.
