Annex F (informative) — Eurorack module survey
Generated by tools/survey.py from the copy of the eis-reference survey in data/survey/ (copied at commit 3604e0e, 2026-10-20). Do not edit by hand.
The figures come from makers' pages, manuals, drawings, and listings, and each row keeps its source. They are evidence for EIS recommendations, not requirements. The samples are not random: they follow the makers whose figures could be found. F.1 shows where the figures come from and how much the result moves when every maker counts equally. Community-entered listing figures are not used.
F.1 Module depth
Depth behind the panel's back face, as each maker or listing states it.
| Sample | Modules | Min | Median | 90th | 95th | Max | ≤ 50 mm | ≤ 60 mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Depth survey | 19 | 31 | 32 | 45 | 63.5 | 63.5 | 94.7 % | 94.7 % |
| Flight-case sample | 268 | 10 | 35 | 48 | 51 | 100 | 94.8 % | 98.9 % |
| Combined | 287 | 10 | 35 | 46 | 51 | 100 | 94.8 % | 98.6 % |
The depth survey covers Doepfer and LZX Industries; 2 rows have sources that disagree and keep the survey's figure. The flight-case sample is a second sample: Intellijel, Tiptop, 4ms, Make Noise, Expert Sleepers, a 23-module Doepfer spot sample, and Xaoc, each from the maker's spec page. No module is in both samples. Percentiles are nearest-rank.
| Source of the figure | Depth survey | Flight-case sample |
|---|---|---|
| maker page | 12 | 268 |
| retailer listing | 7 | 0 |
Weighting each of the 8 makers equally, rather than each module, 92.8 % are within 50 mm and 97.8 % within 60 mm, and the median of the makers' medians is 34 mm.
Makers with at least ten modules in the combined sample:
| Maker | Modules | Median | Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intellijel | 73 | 32 | 45 |
| Tiptop Audio | 47 | 40 | 52 |
| 4ms | 41 | 25 | 40 |
| Make Noise | 32 | 36 | 48 |
| Expert Sleepers | 30 | 42 | 51 |
| Doepfer | 25 | 50 | 100 |
| Xaoc Devices | 22 | 32 | 46 |
| LZX Industries | 17 | 32 | 63.5 |
Bearing on EIS: 94.8 % of the combined sample is within the 50 mm module depth EIS recommends, which is also the deepest common right-angle board depth (5.2.2). A row with 50 mm clear, which EIS also recommends, takes the same share.
F.1.1 Commercial cases
cases.json: the deepest and shallowest module depth that 25 current cases from 11 makers take, from the makers' pages (checked 2026-09-26). The shallow figure is usually over the supply or the bus board.

Bearing on EIS: 20 of 25 current cases give 50 mm somewhere in the row and 17 of 25 give it everywhere; the median case is 62 mm at its deepest and 53 mm at its shallowest. The 50 mm clear depth is a recommendation for that reason: some cases on sale today do not meet it over the supply.
F.2 Module current draw
module-power.json, read 2026-09-30: 223 modules, each from the maker's own figure. Figures are the stated maximums. The statistics use the 219 modules with a width and both 12 V figures that draw from the bus; power sources and host-powered modules are left out.
| Rail | Median mA/HP | 90th mA/HP | Mean mA/HP |
|---|---|---|---|
| +12 V | 11.2 | 39.0 | 15.6 |
| −12 V | 2.5 | 11.7 | 4.3 |
None of the 219 modules with a known +5 V figure draws +5 V from the bus. Modules with a jumper-selectable +5 V (some 4ms and Noise Engineering modules) are recorded in the setting that takes none. 13.7 % draw nothing on −12 V. The largest +12 V draw in the sample is 1500 mA. Over the whole sample the −12 V draw is 33 % of the +12 V draw.
Bearing on EIS: no module in the sample needs +5 V from the bus. EIS keeps +5 V optional (BUS-001, BUS-006), because the A-100 bus carries it and some modules use it.
F.2.1 Supplies
supplies.json, read 2026-09-30: 99 supplies, powered bus boards, rail modules, and bricks, with each rating's source and confidence; prices are left out. 53 feed modules and state both 12 V ratings.
Median rating: 1500 mA on +12 V and 1200 mA on −12 V; the median −12 V rating is 83 % of the +12 V rating. 96 % of the 53 with a known +5 V rating provide +5 V.
Bearing on EIS: modules draw about 33 % as much on −12 V as on +12 V, and supplies are rated about 83 %, so +12 V runs out first in most rows. A row is within its supply only when each rail is (ASM-001).
F.3 Bus boards
bus-boards.json, read 2026-09-30: 12 bus boards, from makers' manuals, drawings, and listings. The file also records header positions, outlines, mounting holes, and ribbon lengths.
| Maker | Product | Headers | Confidence | Power input |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Konstant Lab | Filtered Bus Board #2 | shrouded or keyed | published | other |
| Konstant Lab | Pocket Bus Board | shrouded or keyed | listing | other |
| Doepfer | A-100BUS V6 | shrouded or keyed | published | ¼ in quick-connect |
| Synthrotek | Noise Filtering Power Distribution Board | shrouded or keyed | published | other |
| Synthrotek | Mini Power Distribution Board | shrouded or keyed | listing | other |
| Befaco | Passive Bus | shrouded or keyed | published | other |
| Befaco | Lunchbus | not recorded | — | not recorded |
| Tiptop Audio | Zeus Passive Bus Board | not recorded | — | ¼ in quick-connect |
| Tiptop Audio | Flying Bus Board | shrouded or keyed | published | other |
| 4ms | Bus Stick [Shrouded Headers] | shrouded or keyed | published | other |
| LeftHandPooch (open hardware, GitHub) | Bus Bone EuroRack Bus Board | shrouded or keyed | published | ¼ in quick-connect |
| Pulp Logic | Passive Bus Block | not recorded | — | not recorded |
Bearing on EIS: 9 of the 9 boards with a recorded header type use shrouded or keyed headers, which supports keying them (BUS-005). 3 take power on ¼ in quick-connect tabs, among them Doepfer's A-100BUS V6, enough to recommend them (6.5), not to require them.
Header type is recorded per bus board, not per module. No source found records which modules use a 10-pin or a 16-pin header.
