Part 6 — Assembly
The rules for the person who fits a system together (9). They bind the installer, not a product: a product conforms whether or not its owner follows them. Each protects a conforming product from a system that is put together wrongly: a row over its power budget, two transmitters on one bus line, two sources on one entry, a passive split of a video tree.

9 Assembling a system
Rules for the person who fits modules, bus boards, supplies, power converters, DC rails, PWR-A6, and the video reference into a row. They bind the installer, not a product: a product conforms whether or not its owner follows them. Each rule protects a conforming product from a system that is put together wrongly.
9.1 Power
A module shall be added to a row only while, on each rail of each power domain, the sum of the published currents (PWR-001) stays within the published totals of every source and every product with outlets that feeds it, such as the bus board and the supply, and the current through each outlet, such as one bus header, stays within that outlet's limit (PWR-002) (ASM-001). Each rail counts on its own, and a row with several bus boards sums each board separately. The informative row budget is a worksheet for the sum.
When a module publishes its +12 V current but not its −12 V current, EIS recommends planning −12 V at 50 % of +12 V. In the survey of Annex F, +12 V usually runs out first.
Before a module goes in, the power is off. The ribbon is seated square at both ends with the marked conductor toward −12 V (6.4), the panel is screwed to the rails, and any blank panel that was removed is put back.
Row wiring an installer adds between a power supply, bus boards, a product with PWR-DC12 outlets, or a DC entry shall meet PWR-006 and PWR-007, with each conductor landed on a terminal of the type the product publishes (ASM-009); the terminals, gauges, and the recommended parts are in 6.1.
9.2 Bus CV and gate
At most one module shall transmit on each CV line and at most one on each gate line, where a line runs across linked bus boards up to a region split (ASM-002). Any number may listen (6.6). With no CV transmitter on a line, EIS recommends leaving the listening jumpers of oscillators off, so that a floating CV line cannot detune them.
9.3 DC power entry
Installation shall not connect bus power and DC entry power to the same dual-source module at the same time (ASM-003). Installation shall not insert a DC-BAR25 plug into a DC-BAR21 DC entry (ASM-004). Each DC rail shall be fed from one adapter or one case DC entry at a time (ASM-005). A DC-VH2, DC-DIN4, DC-MF6, or DC-MF8 DC entry shall be mated only with that variant's plug (ASM-006).
The product rules for the DC entry are in 6.7.
9.4 Video reference
Each video reference tree in a row shall have exactly one source, a VID-REF-OUT or an external reference at one VID-REF-IN, and each VID-REF-IN shall be fed by one output (ASM-007). The product rules are in 7.4; choosing how to distribute the video reference is the informative Annex M.
9.5 PWR-A6
Each PWR-A6 entry shall be fed by one source at a time (ASM-008). A linear power converter on the bus counts in the bus budget of 9.1 at its published input current, which is about the module's own ±6 V current; its heat counts in Annex O. The product rules are in 6.8.
