Annex Q (informative) — Worked examples

Three products taken from first sketch to claim, so that a first-time reader can see how the clauses fit together. The figures are illustrative; each example has a claim file in data/examples/ that eis claim accepts.

Q.1 A module: a two-channel video mixer

EIS · Worked example: a two-channel video mixer, from panel to claim IN A · MOD-VIDEO IN B · MOD-VIDEO MIX CV · MOD-CV U5 OUT · MOD-VIDEO · 45 MHz, 12 ns INV OUT · MOD-VIDEO · 40 MHz, 15 ns 8 HP claim EIS draft, module size 3U, 8 HP, 28 mm deep +12 V 0.12 A −12 V 0.06 A +5 V 0 A, 10-pin header ports 5, each with a class heat 2.2 W at most data/examples/claim-module-video-mixer.yaml; Annex Q.1 walks through each requirement it meets.

Step Decision Requirement
Size 3U, 8 HP: a panel 128.5 mm high and no wider than 40.64 mm, made 40.34 mm; four Ø3.2 mm holes on the HP grid PANEL-002, PANEL-006, PANEL-010, PANEL-011
Board 28 mm deep behind the panel, 9.25 mm clear of the top and bottom edges PANEL-003, PANEL-012
Power Draws 0.12 A on +12 V, 0.06 A on −12 V, nothing on +5 V; uses no bus CV or gate, so the 10-pin header is enough BUS-007, PWR-001
Protection Survives a reversed ribbon; every 0 V pin of the header is tied to the board's 0 V BUS-009, GND-001
Ports IN A and IN B are MOD-VIDEO inputs, 100 kΩ; OUT and INV OUT drive through 75 Ω; MIX CV is MOD-CV claiming U5, 0 to +5 V SIG-001, SIG-006, SIG-009, SIG-010, SIG-014
Patch safety Every input survives ±12 V; every output survives a short and stays within ±12 V SIG-002, SIG-003, SIG-004
Video paths Publishes 45 MHz bandwidth and 12 ns delay for OUT (recommended) 7.2

It owns no feature, so its claim line is EIS draft, module, and its claim file is claim-module-video-mixer.yaml. It dissipates at most 12 V × 0.12 A + 12 V × 0.06 A = 2.2 W (Annex O).

Q.2 A case: two rows with a built-in supply

The case of claim-enclosure.yaml has two 104 HP rows, each 55 mm deep behind the panel, a built-in supply of 4.0 A, 2.0 A, and 2.0 A, and a bus board that allows 1.5 A per header.

Step Decision Requirement
Rows Publishes 104 HP and 55 mm for each row, so a 28 mm module fits and a 60 mm one does not ENC-001, PANEL-003
Rails Rails of the recommended section with M3 inserts; ships 6 mm M3 screws and says so RAIL-003, RAIL-009, RAIL-011
Supply Publishes each rail's rating and ripple, all below 150 mV; survives a short; no reverse swing or overshoot PWR-002, SUP-001 to SUP-007
Bus board Publishes its totals and the 1.5 A per-header limit; every header's 0 V runs to the supply's 0 V PWR-002, BUS-012, GND-002
Earth Its 0 V is bonded to protective earth at the IEC inlet, and the documentation says so GND-003

The person filling it then budgets each row (9.1). The example rows in row_budget_two_row.yaml carry 1.48 A on +12 V and 0.70 A on −12 V on the processing row, about 26 W of heat by Annex O, with one module whose −12 V figure is unpublished planned at half its +12 V figure.

EIS · A row's current budget on the bus: the example row 'performance' +12 V 0.58 A of modules, 3.42 A left bus board and supply 4 A −12 V 0.37 A of modules, 2.12 A left bus board and supply 2.5 A +5 V 0.00 A of modules, 2.00 A left bus board and supply 2 A Audio I/O: +12 V 0.12 A, −12 V 0.08 A Mixer: +12 V 0.18 A, −12 V 0.12 A VCO: +12 V 0.09 A, −12 V 0.05 A VCF/VCA: +12 V 0.08 A, −12 V 0.06 A Envelope/LFO: +12 V 0.06 A, −12 V 0.04 A MIDI utility (Type A): +12 V 0.05 A, −12 V not published A module goes into a row only while each rail's sum stays within the bus board's totals, its per-header limit, and the supply's rating (ASM-001). The dashed segment plans a module that publishes no −12 V figure at 50 % of its +12 V draw, as EIS recommends.

Q.3 A video row: one reference, one DC rail

EIS · Worked example: one video reference and one DC rail across a row video reference generator bus board REF IN, PASSTHRU x n BNC video module COAX-IN video module COAX-IN video module COAX-IN DC entry panel DC-DIN4 entry adapter DC-VH2 to each module One source per tree (ASM-007); each module on one source (ASM-003); shells and −V are 0 V (V75-002, GND-001).

Part Claim What it does in the row
Video reference generator module (PWR-BUS-IN, VID-REF-IN, VID-REF-OUT), claim-module-video-reference-generator.yaml Its REF OUT, a COAX-OUT on BNC, drives the distributor's designated input
Video bus board bus board (PWR-BUS-OUT, VID-REF-IN, VID-REF-PASSTHRU), claim-bus-board-video-reference.yaml Takes the generator's reference at REF IN and gives each module a buffered copy at a PASSTHRU
Video modules module (PWR-BUS-IN, VID-REF-IN) Each takes the reference at a VID-REF-IN, a COAX-IN at the rear, on RCA, BNC, or SMA
DC entry panel module (PWR-DC12-IN), claim-module-dc-entry.yaml Takes 12 V at a DC-DIN4 case entry and feeds modules at DC-BAR21 outlets, each protected
Cables cable (VID-75), cable (PWR-DC12) 75 Ω coax center to center; DC cables +V to +V

The installer keeps one source per tree (ASM-007) and connects each dual-source module to one source (ASM-003). Every coaxial shell and the DC rail's −V are the modules' 0 V (V75-002, GND-001), so the reference, the picture, and the power share one 0 V; with the DC adapter floating and one earth bond at the case supply, there is no loop to show as hum bars (6.3).
