videomancer beta program

rc.25→rc.29 cumulative field test — video sync & boot routing, USB host stability, settings persistence, program library, AudioIn modulator, Pendulum fix, and new MOTION diagnostic pages

Active RC: 1.0.0-rc.29

Before you test

  • Install LZX Connect and enable **Show pre-release firmware**
  • Flash **1.0.0-rc.29** (Connect update or .uf2 from Downloads)
  • Confirm **1.0.0-rc.29** on the SYSTEM screen
  • microSD inserted if you will install the full program library

Testing goals

  • HDMI / composite input — stable picture after boot

    high

If you use an external video source (not standalone synthesis): 1. Connect your usual HDMI or composite source to the rear input. 2. Load **Passthru** (or your normal input-routing program). 3. Power-cycle the unit and wait for the picture to lock. Repeat once with a cold boot (power off 30 s, then on).

Pass: Stable, locked picture on first boot — no rolling, tearing, or needing to reload the program to fix sync. Should match behavior you had on rc.25 if you skipped rc.26–rc.27.

  • Analog video output — correct connector on first boot

    high

    1. In **SYSTEM**, set **Analog Out Mode** to match your cable (Component, Y/C, etc.) and **Analog In Mode** if you use composite/Component in. 2. Load a program that uses your normal routing. 3. Power-cycle without reloading the program. Before rc.29, some setups needed a program reload before analog out looked right — this check confirms that is fixed.

Pass: Analog output uses your chosen connector/mode immediately after boot; no program reload required.

  • Settings remembered after power cycle

    high

    1. Change something easy to spot: **Language** in SYSTEM, or BPM on the MOTION screen, or switch to a different program. 2. Power-cycle the unit. 3. Check the same setting.

Pass: Your changes are still there after reboot (language, BPM, last program, and video routing settings in SYSTEM).

  • Rear USB host — keyboard without freezes

    high

    1. Plug a USB keyboard into the **rear host** port (not the PC/device port). 2. Open **Passthru** or another program that accepts keyboard input. 3. Type normally for at least 10 minutes. 4. Unplug and replug the keyboard once during the session. Optional stress: try a second USB device (mouse, hub) if you use one in your rig — the unit should recover if a device misbehaves instead of locking up with a frozen LCD.

Pass: Keys register reliably; no stuck or dropped keys; front panel and LCD stay responsive for the whole session.

  • Full program library via LZX Connect

    medium

    1. In LZX Connect, run **Install Program Library** (full library to microSD). 2. When finished, open the **PROGRAMS** menu on the unit. 3. Scroll through — bundled programs should appear and load.

Pass: Library install completes; programs appear in PROGRAMS and run. If you already had a full library, confirm nothing regressed.

  • New AudioIn modulator — rear audio/CV inputs

    high

    1. Patch audio or CV into **rear input 1** (try 0 V, then a slow LFO or audio if you have it). 2. Open **MODULATOR**, pick a slot, set source to **AudioIn**. 3. Set **Channel** to **1** and map the modulator to a visible parameter (brightness, hue, etc.) on any program. 4. Change the input signal and watch the parameter move. If you have inputs 2–4 wired, repeat with **Channel** 2–4.

Pass: Modulator follows the patched input on the selected channel; no crashes or stuck modulation when switching programs.

  • Pendulum modulator keeps oscillating

    medium

    1. Open **MODULATOR**, set a slot to **Pendulum**. 2. Map it to any visible parameter. 3. Let it run for a few minutes without sending MIDI notes.

Pass: Pendulum continues swinging/modulating on its own (earlier builds could appear dead until a MIDI note arrived).

  • MOTION screen — USB connection page (page 3)

    high

    1. Press **MOTION** until page **3** (USB monitor — after Transport, mod overview, and mod levels). 2. With nothing on the host port: row 1 should show **Host: No dev**. 3. Plug a USB keyboard or mouse into the **rear host** port — device count should increase within a few seconds. 4. Connect or disconnect the **PC USB** cable — row 2 should toggle **Dev: PC online** / **Dev: No PC**.

Pass: Host device count and PC connection state track plug/unplug within a few seconds; **OK** vs **ERR** on the host row looks sensible for your setup.

  • MOTION screen — Audio/CV input page (page 4)

    high

    1. Press **MOTION** until page **4** (four rear inputs). 2. With inputs unpatched or at 0 V, note the raw values (mid-scale is roughly **2048** per channel). 3. Apply a known voltage or CV to inputs **1–4** one at a time. Display format is compact: channel, raw sample, and integer volts (e.g. `1:2048+0` = input 1, raw 2048, about 0 V).

Pass: All four channels update live; 0 V reads near 0 V; higher/lower CV moves raw and voltage in the expected direction.

  • Standalone synthesis — quick regression

    low

If you normally run without an external video input: 1. Load any synthesis program (e.g. **Perlin**, **Colorbars**). 2. Power-cycle and confirm output timing and color look normal.

Pass: Standalone HDMI/analog out works; no new glitches vs your last good RC.

Known issues

  • HDMI black frame on cold boot — Power-cycle once if the first frame is black; report if it persists after a second cycle.
  • MOTION ADC page shows integer volts only — Values are approximate on the 16-character LCD; use LZX Connect or the shell for finer readout if needed.
  • 96-program slot limit — If you sideload many extras, boot may briefly show "Over Limit" — oldest extras may not appear in PROGRAMS until you remove some.
